One Direction Welcomes New Member: The 1D Potato

Eight months ago, Zayn Malik left One Direction, but on
Thursday night his replacement was found… and he’s dirty and starchy.

“We
have some very exciting news for One Direction fans tonight. We are going to do
something no band has ever done before, no band has ever had before. We are
going to welcome a new member to the One Direction family,” Jimmy
Kimmel said on Thursday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” as fans eagerly
awaited who it might be.

Enter
the 1D Potato!

“That new member is this potato. This is a Russet
potato raised in a field among many others. We bought it at Ralph’s. It cost 58
cents. It’s a very ordinary, some might say humble, vegetable, but what this
potato does not know is it is about to become the most famous potato in the
world,” he declared. “Members of the paparazzi will try to take
pictures of it. Young girls will shriek when they see it. By this time tomorrow,
this potato…might even be dating Ariana Grande.”

The
lucky root vegetable then met the band where Niall smelled and patted it, Liam
also smelled it, Louis poked it with his finger and then the 1D Potato was
rubbed against Harry’s legendary hair!

The 1D Potato became a social media sensation in mere hours
and even rubbed elbows (we’re not even sure if that’s possible for a potato?)
with Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone.

As of Friday morning the 1D Potato had over
14,000 followers on Twitter, 104,000 followers on Instagram and his debut photo
on the band’s Instagram account has more than 532,000 likes.
