O’Neal Family On Remembering Farrah Fawcett: ‘It Hurts’

On Friday, the O’Neal family marked the first anniversary of Farrah Fawcett’s death – a day that weighed heavily on her son, Redmond.

“I saw my mom’s gravesite for the first time today,” the 25-year-old, who has spent time in jail and now at a sober living facility since his mother’s death, told People.

Redmond was given a day pass for the anniversary.

“I miss my mother so much. I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore. I know she’s looking down on us,” he added.

His father, Ryan O’Neal, said “it hurts” to have the “Charlie’s Angels” star gone.

“I wish I could talk to her,” Ryan said. “Having Farrah gone has been very hard. It hurts. I don’t know what Redmond is going through. He is quiet about it, but he must be suffering terribly.”

Tatum O’Neal, Ryan’s daughter, added that the family had come together since their loss on June 25, 2009.

“Our being able to reconnect as a family is so beautiful,” she said of her reconciliation with her father. “Farrah would be so happy that we’re all here.”

The family, along with Farrah’s longtime friend, Alana Stewart, used the anniversary to dedicate the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, a cancer research organization.

Farrah died at 62 after a long battle with cancer, shedding light on the subject with the Foundation and her documentary, “Farrah’s Story.”

“If I can help carry on Farrah’s mission for the foundation, it’s an honor for me,” Alana told The Associated Press. “I feel almost like she’s a guardian angel watching over me, and I feel like she’s smiling down on us and very happy that she died for a cause.

“She felt that she could help a lot of people and she could give a lot of people inspiration, courage and hope,” Alana continued. “That’s why she did the documentary and that’s why she started the foundation.”

And Ryan told the AP that his former partner was gone, but not forgotten.

“Farrah was extremely loved around the world,” he said. “We will try to keep that feeling in play.”
