‘The Originals’: EP Michael Narducci On Klaus & Aurora, Marcel’s Big Decision

The first generation of Mikaelson sires have brought big trouble to the Big Easy on “The Originals.”

Fear and revenge have prompted them to make major plays against the first vampire family, including their most recent and shocking act – staking Rebekah Mikaelson and dumping her body into the ocean. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is furious with his ex-girlfriend Aurora for her major role in that one, and he may have to unleash his hybrid side to try and get the information out her to get his sister back.

While the Mikaelson family and their nearest and dearest are all concerned about Rebekah, there are other serious situations in play for Marcel, Davina and Cami (who just encountered Aurora at the end of last week’s episode).

With an all-new episode of “The Originals” on the way, we spoke with Executive Producer Michael Narducci, who gave us some hints at the situations the New Orleans supernatural (and supernaturally affiliated) characters will be dealing with on Thursday night.

Here’s what we learned:

Klaus will go to great lengths to try and get the coordinates indicating where Rebekah is out of Aurora (well, the half she has): “I think that he knows that someone he cares about is in danger and he’s really pissed off that this person who’s come back into his life – Aurora – is kind of messing with his city and his game plan and getting into his family’s business, and Aurora is responsible for putting Rebekah at the bottom of the ocean. That’s the thing that I think we need to all keep in mind, and he is irate. It was one thing when he thought she hijacked Rebekah’s body and took his sister and was holding her hostage or whatever, but she admitted in the last episode, ‘Rebekah’s at the bottom of the ocean,’ and he is furious. And when he tracks her down, there’s going to be a moment where he’s just going to have at it with her and in a way that is typically Klausian, he’s going to have to get the information that she has that will allow him to get back his sister and I kind of like the way that he does that,” Narducci said.

On Aurora’s interest in Cami: “Aurora is a very arrogant and secure ex-girlfriend. … She broke up with Klaus a very long time ago, and she just assumes ‘there’s nobody that could have had an effect on Klaus the way I have had an effect on Klaus.’ We could make an argument that she’s a lunatic, but she fundamentally believes that,” Narducci said. So now that Aurora has heard so many mentions of Cami in relation to her ex, she’s interested in knowing more about the New Orleans human. “She wants to go in there and interview and talk to and get to the bottom of this and just find out what is it about this person that could possibly hold Klaus Mikaelson’s attention. And, if she were to realize that Cami were a legitimate threat to Klaus’ affection and a competition for her, I think that would pose a big problem and a threat to Cami and put her survival in danger,” the producer added.

Marcel has a big decision to make: The Strix have plans for the Mikaelsons, and Marcel has to figure a lot out. “‘Am I part of the Mikaelson family or do I seriously need to consider that standing against them and being a part of the process of putting this prophecy to rest is actually a better thing for me to do, even if that means betraying people who have been friends and family for 200 years,'” Narducci said of what Marcel has to think over. “Yes, Marcel and the Mikaelsons had an explosive breakup in the 1920s, and yes, the first two seasons of our show, they have been fraught with some animosity and there have been a lot of ups and downs, but they are, right now, on the same page. And I believe that they have been allies – Elijah and Marcel, Klaus and Marcel, especially Hayley and Marcel. But now, Marcel is starting to realize if this prophecy comes true and I’m linked to Klaus and Klaus dies, that’s it for me and for my friends. So if the Strixs are a vehicle for changing that fate, don’t I owe it to myself to consider them as potential allies, even if that means betraying my friends and my family? And so that’s the really difficult place he’s in and I wouldn’t count Marcel out yet. He’s still a hero in this show and I really love his journey going forward, and how he’s going to have to make some tough decisions and surprise us along the way,” the EP said.

Davina lost some of her witch powers, but don’t count her out: “She’s not as powerful as she was as a Regent, which puts her in a very difficult place with all these dangerous people coming to town, but it also puts her in a very difficult place given her initial goal,” Narducci said, referencing Davina’s hopes to bring back Kol. “She became a Regent to have the power to bring him back. That didn’t work out because she was betrayed and now, here she is — she doesn’t even have the power to protect herself, let alone save the guy who died, who she wanted to save. So, she’s going to find herself in a very difficult position with very few allies and that’s going to force her to do some pretty extreme things coming up. We won’t see her right away. We wanted to kind of dramatize the notion of having been shunned. She’s going to disappear for a little bit and for lack of a better term, lick her wounds and decide how she’s going to come back,” he added, noting that fans can expect some big Davina stuff in early 2016.
