Paris Hilton Tells Barbara Walters: ‘God Has Given Me This New Chance’

Paris Hilton has become more “spiritual” since being in jail and plans to promote a to-be-determined charity when she is released from jail according to Barbara Walters.

“The View,” host spoke to Paris on Sunday night and recounted her conversation with the jailed heiress Monday, during the show’s Hot Topics section. Hilton told Walters she had not looked in a mirror during her incarceration and that she has changed.

“She said ‘I’m not the same person I was. I know now that I can make a difference, that I have the power to do that. I want to do different things when I’m out of here . . . I used to act dumb, it was an act and that act is no longer cute. It is not who I am nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me,’” Walters recounted. “She said ‘I’m 26 years old now and it is a different time.’ She said ‘I have become much more spiritual. God has given me this new chance.’”

“The View’s” audience laughed after hearing Paris’ plans, but a determined Walters carried on, telling watchers that the celebutante plans to help out a charity upon her release. Hilton told Walters she hoped to promote either breast cancer awareness because her maternal grandmother suffered from the disease or multiple sclerosis, which her paternal grandmother was afflicted with.

“She said that she might get toy companies to build a Paris Hilton playhouse for children where sick children might come,” Walters continued. “What she was talking about was that she has a power that she can now use for very different things. She has what she described to me as a spiritual advisor. [She said] ‘my spirit or soul did not like the way I was being seen and that is why I was sent to jail. ‘God,’ she said, ‘has released me.’”

That comment brought more chuckles from the audience and a barb from co-host Joy Behar who suggested God may have released Hilton, but “the judge hasn’t.”

Walters said Hilton protested reports that said she was “wailing, sobbing or screaming,” but said she wasn’t eating or sleeping. “I was severely depressed,” Hilton told the TV veteran. “I felt I was not myself. It was a horrible experience.”

Among other things that have change since Hilton’s jail experience began? According to Walters, Hilton has said she is no longer concerned about appearances.

“She also said ‘my face is very dry. There’s no cream here but it doesn’t matter. I am not that superficial girl. I haven’t looked in a mirror since I got here,” Walters recounted. “She said ‘my purpose in life is to be where I am however, usually in a situation like mine, a person only serves ten percent of their time. I however already served thirty percent of my time.’”

Hilton is expected to be released in just over two weeks time.
