Paula Deen’s Latest Controversy: Brownface

Paula Deen caused a firestorm on Tuesday with photo that has many saying is an example of brownface.

In a Tweet that has since been deleted, Paula and son Bobby Deen are seen in a photo dressed as “I Love Lucy’s” Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. Bobby’s face is covered in brown makeup, which caused a strong backlash from people on social media.

The celebrity chef captioned the shot, “Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin’ to do!” adding the hashtag “#TransformationTuesday.”

Needless to say, many we’re not pleased with the photo.

Back in 2013, the chef made a tearful apology for her past use of racial slurs.

“Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable,” she said in her 2013 apology posted on YouTube after she acknowledged using racial slurs, including the N-word. “I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners – I beg for your forgiveness.”

Both Paula and son Bobby have yet to address the photo on social media since it was deleted.
