Pete Wentz: Baby Bronx Was ‘A Happy Accident’

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are proud parents – but planned parents, that’s another story.

“It was a happy accident,” Wentz said in an interview with the December issue of Details magazine.

Ashlee and Pete welcomed son Bronx Mowgli on November 20. And while baby Bronx may not have been an addition to the family by design, he most certainly is a welcome arrival.

“I think that certain things happen for a reason in your life, and maybe it was time to put the wild child in a cage,” Pete continued.

The wild child days of the 29-year-old new dad have been well-chronicled, including an attempted overdose on the anti-anxiety medication Ativan in 2005.

But besides his new child, the Fall Out Boy rocker said another celebrity helped open his eyes to the dangers of a reckless existence.

“Dude, after Heath Ledger, I was just like, ‘Man, this is not going to end up good,’” Pete revealed to Details.

Also helping Pete clean up his act was his bride, Ashlee.

“I realized I’d found my soul mate and it made me want to be a better person,” Pete added. “Now, with the baby, I want to be the best dad I can be.”

Daddy duty is just the latest chapter in a jam-packed life, which includes his uber-popular emo band, his Decaydance record label and his Clandestine clothing line, but there is one project Pete won’t be taking part in anytime soon.

“I get pitched, like, ‘Newlyweds 2’ once a week, dude,” Pete said, referencing the reality show Ashlee’s big sis, Jessica, rose to fame on alongside ex-husband Nick Lachey. “For like… move-to-an-island-after-this-money. I just can’t do it.”
