Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of HBO Films’ “Wizard of Lies,” about the Bernie Madoff scandal.
The actress will play Ruth Madoff. It was previously announced that Robert De Niro is playing Bernie Madoff.
De Niro is an executive producer on the film, alongside director Barry Levinson. Alessandro Nivola (of HBO’s “Doll & Em”) will play Mark Madoff.

“Wizard of Lies” will focus on Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, specifically “how it was perpetrated on the public and the trail of destruction it left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff’s family,” according to the network.
The film is based on Diana Henriques’ book of the same name.
