Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead At 46; Family ‘Devastated’

Academy award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has died. He was 46.

The actor was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday with a needle in his left arm, an NYPD source told Access Hollywood.

Hoffman’s family is mourning the loss of the actor.

“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone,” the family said in a statement released on Sunday. “This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”

Pervaiz Shallwani, a Wall Street Journal reporter who broke the story, also Tweeted additional details reportedly given out by a law enforcement official.

“Law enforcement official: Actor [was] found in the bathroom of 4th floor apartment with a needle in his arm,” Shallwani Tweeted, adding, “Official: Philip Seymour Hoffman was in the apartment alone & had been collaborating w/ screenwriter David Katz, who found him & called 911.”

Hoffman won an Academy award in 2005 for his performance in “Capote.”

The actor was currently playing Plutarch Heavensbee in “The Hunger Games” franchise. No word on how his death will affect the four-part movie series.
