Photo: Daniel Day-Lewis Transforms Into Abraham Lincoln

While it’s impossible to raise former presidents from the dead, Hollywood has managed to transform Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis into a spitting image of Abraham Lincoln.

In this photo, released from the highly-anticipated biopic “Lincoln” directed by Steven Spielberg, Lewis is seen pictured for his role as the 16th president. Written by playwright Tony Kushner, who co-wrote “Munich” with Spielberg, the script is based off of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Lincoln biography “Team of Rivals” and will reveal the civil rights accomplishments of his presidency.

According to DreamWorks, this film will focus on “the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition [of slavery] and the end of the Civil War.”

Lewis known for his roles in “My Left Foot,” “The Last of the Mohicans” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood,” for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor, joins a star-studded cast in the biopic, including Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader and Jackie Earle Haley.

While the movie had been put on hold for many years as Spielberg balanced his other projects, “Lincoln” is set for limited release.
