Piers Morgan & Sharon Osbourne Discuss Amy Winehouse’s Death: ‘People Let Her Down’

Piers Morgan says he wasn’t surprised by the death of Amy Winehouse, but he does think there are people, besides the singer herself, to blame

“I do blame people,” Piers told Access Hollywood after Tuesday night’s “America’s Got Talent” broadcast on NBC. “Of course it’s down to Amy Winehouse, but this kid was this big with the most incredible talent we’ve seen in Britain for 25 years, since Elton John was a singer/songwriter.

“Where were all the people making money out of her when it mattered?” Piers continued. “Really, where were they? You know, it’s just not good enough and they’re all going to make millions out of it now she’s dead. You know the album, ‘Back to Black,’ is No. 1… but people let her down.”

The “America’s Got Talent” judge had a personal connection to the singer and said he heard about the life she led.

“My brother-in-law was in her band… So I kind of [know] the travails of her career of the last few years — not turning up to concerts… and it’s just really sad,” he said of Amy’s death on Saturday at the age of 27. “What else do you say? I mean, she joined this terrible ‘27 Club.’ There will be people out there that think it’s cool. It’s not.”

Sharon Osbourne’s daughter, Kelly Osbourne, was a friend of Amy’s and on Tuesday, her daughter attended the singer’s memorial service.

“It’s a sad day for everybody that’s a music lover today,” “AGT” judge Sharon told Access. “Amy was laid to rest today and it’s a sad day for people who just adore music and especially for her parents because she’s so young. So young.”
