Pink On Her ‘Punk Rock’ Roots & Using Photos To Win Her Man Back

Pink may be having a grand old time taking her “Funhouse” tour around the world, but she’s definitely not the same person she was when she released her debut album, 2000’s “Cant’ Take Me Home.”

“I think in the beginning I was definitely [filled with a] punk rock mentality,” the singer told Britain’s The Times newspaper. “Anti-authority, question everything, carve your own path. And I think I’ve done that in my little pop world in some aspects. Now my anger is more focused.”

The singer suggested her “punk rock” mentality started early in life.

“I was anti-authority and ready to be on my own since I was 8,” she said. “My whole goal in life was to drop out of school, get legally emancipated and hitch-hike across the country and get discovered on Venice beach.”

Nowadays the focused singer takes joy in bringing her music to her fans on what she told the newspaper was “an authentic level,” due in part to her words.

“I think probably my lyrics [make me relatable],” she said. “I’m not subtle or poetic and I think that’s a big part of who I am and why I’m easy to connect to.”

Pink said she admires a host of songwriters and occasionally aspires to use words like they do.

“Sometimes I wish, yeah, I could say it like some other people do, a lot more eloquently: Lauryn Hill, Joni Mitchell, Paolo Nutini, anyone else really,” she told the newspaper. “I would say most people out there are singing songs that are a little more intelligent than what I put out. But mine are extremely honest. Mine are, ‘I’m getting out of bed today and I’m going to put one foot in front of the other. Come join me.’”

But while she’s honest in her lyrics, she used more subtle methods to reconnect with her one time estranged husband, motocross racer Carey Hart — giving him a photo album filled with shots of the happier moments in their marriage.

“I gave it to him. I was like: ‘I don’t want to have this any more, I think you should have it,’” she said. “It was a bit of trickery but it worked.”
