‘PLL’ Star Lucy Hale Recounts ‘Fifty Shades’ Audition: ‘I Was Just Interested In Doing Something Risky’

“Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale auditioned for the role of Anastasia Steele, and she called testing for the film, “awkward.”

“It actually was – it was just me,” Lucy told MTV News. “It was like a two-page monologue of dialogue of exactly what you would think it would be.”

Lucy told MTV News that her audition was, “very uncomfortable, but it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it or you’re just gonna look lame.”

“Hopefully, I didn’t look lame,” she added. “But, yeah, I mean, it was unlike any audition I’ve ever done before in my life.”

Lucy told the outlet that she thought the scene she was given to perform was penned just for the audition.

Despite the awkwardness, Lucy said she was definitely interested in the role.

“I think any girl in my demographic would have loved to be a part of it. Yeah, I mean, mainly, I was just interested in doing something risky and doing something a little different than my character on ‘PLL.’ So, yeah, it took me out of my comfort zone,” she said.

“Fifty Shades of Grey,” starring Dakota Johnson as Anastasia and Jamie Dornan as Christian, opens February 13, 2015 in theaters.
