‘Precious’ Leads Nominees For NAACP Image Awards

The heart-wrenching story of an illiterate and abused Harlem teen who finds hope in a classroom of misfits tops nominees for the 41st annual NAACP Image Awards.

“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” earned a leading eight nominations Wednesday, with nods for director Lee Daniels, star Gabourey Sidibe and supporting actors Mariah Carey, Mo’Nique, Paula Patton and Lenny Kravitz.

The film also was nominated for outstanding motion picture and outstanding independent film, adding to its awards-season momentum.

Also receiving a nomination with TV One Access host Tatyana Ali, who got a nod for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series for her role on ‘The Young and The Restless.’

The Image Awards honoring diversity in the arts will be presented Feb. 26 and broadcast live on Fox.
