Prince William and Kate Middleton want their wedding gifts to be in the form of donations to charity.
The couple has set up The Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund, which will help fund 26 different organizations personally selected by the couple.
“Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton have created a charitable gift fund to help celebrate their wedding. The fund will focus on assisting charities which support the five causes chosen by the couple. These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far. Having been touched by the goodwill shown to them since their engagement, they have asked that anyone wishing to send them a wedding gift consider doing so in the form of a donation to the fund,” a message on the fund’s website stated.
According to People, the fund has already raised donations totalling more than six figures.
George Michael, who re-recorded Stevie Wonder’s “You and I” as a wedding gift for the Royal couple, is also encouraging people to donate to the fund when they download the song.
“I want Will and Kate to know that this is a genuine gift, not a promo exercise,” Michael told People. “It’s a gift that they’ll be able to turn into many, many donations.”
The singer might be crooning for the couple, but said he won’t be attending the wedding on April 29.
“They should [be] surrounded by people they love,” he said. “Not dodgy ex-con pop stars.”
