Production Begins On Nicki Minaj’s ‘Nicki’ Sitcom

The Nicki Minaj sitcom is almost here.

Production on “Nicki,” the scripted comedy series
executive produced by the outrageous rapper, has begun, Freeform (the cable
channel formerly known as ABC Family) announced on Tuesday.

“Nicki” follows the story of the Minaj family – from
immigrating from Trinidad in the 1990s to what it was like growing up in Queens,
New York to the “personal and musical evolution” that eventually led
to Nicki’s rise to stardom.

The series stars Ariana Neal (as Nicki), Selita Ebanks, Wesley
Jonathan and McCarrie McCausland. The first episode will also feature Whoopi
Goldberg and J.B. Smoove.

Besides executive producing, Nicki will also appear on the show.

“This
is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more
proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world
something really special,” Nicki said in September when the series was
first announced.

No premiere date has been set for “Nicki.”
