Reba McEntire Talks Divine Song Inspiration; Reveals ‘Empire’ Obsession

In this edition of “Country Superstars: They’re Just Like Us,” Reba McEntire’s TV obsession makes us love her even more.

The music legend stopped by Access Hollywood Live to talk about her new album on Tuesday, and admitted that she (like over 16 million other viewers) can’t get enough of “Empire.”

“I fell in love with that show. I just happened upon it when it first came out, and then I really liked it, and I kept watching it and watching it,” she told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover of the Fox hit series. “I can’t wait for it to come back.”

The “Going Out Like That” singer said she enjoys watching “Empire” tackle the “ins and outs” of the music business, but it’s Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson that keep her coming back for more.

“The romance between Lucious and Cookie is hysterical to me! I just [finally] get to where I like Lucious, and then he pulls another stunt,” she laughed. “Then Cookie [sticks] it to him. She’s a spitfire!”

In addition to Cookie’s sass, Reba is a fan of the Lyon matriarch’s fashion – so much so that she’s been on a quest to replicate one of Cookie’s looks.

“It was a top that she had on – looked like leather on top and snakeskin on the bottom… we’ve been looking for it,” she explained. “I like all her clothes. She’s a snazzy dresser!”

As for Reba’s new album, the singer said the love-themed record was written by other songwriters with the exception of one very special song, “Pray For Peace” – which she wrote with the help of some divine inspiration.

“That was a song I wrote about two years ago. [It started] because I was out walking at the house in Tennessee and ‘Pray for peace’ just came into my head, and you know, I was walking outside – outside is my church – and I was just talking to the Lord,” she said. “And I said, ‘What do you want me to do next?’ ’cause he’s my planner. People will ask me all the time, ‘What are you gonna do next?’ I say, ‘I don’t know – he hasn’t told me yet.’

“And so I said what do you want me to do?’ And he said, ‘Pray for peace,'” she continued. “[It was just] a little thought in my mind and I had been praying for peace, and so after a while, it was like, go record it!”

Reba said she spent more time developing “Pray For Peace” than any other song in her career history – but she’s happy she did.

“It was sure worth it,” she said. “And I’m sure glad that I listened to [God] and did what he said.”

Reba’s new album, “Love Somebody,” is available now.
