Rebel Wilson & Elizabeth Banks: ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Champions Acceptance

“Pitch Perfect 2” may be tons of fun and lots of laughs, but Rebel Wilson and Elizabeth Banks want you to get the film’s underlying message: acceptance.

“So we’re called the Bellas, which in Italian means beautiful. And when you look at the 10 of us girls, we’re all different shapes and sizes and nationalities, but we’re all beautiful,” Rebel told Access Hollywood at the “Pitch Perfect 2” junket in Los Angeles. “And we all come together to work together as a team to create something awesome. And I think that’s a really good message.”

Elizabeth, who stars in and produced the first and second “PP” films as well as directed the upcoming sequel, echoed Rebel’s sentiments, and said she pushed for the romance between Fat Amy (Rebel) and Bumper Allen (Adam DeVine).

“It was very important to me, personally, that she got a love story this time. I just think she deserved it,” Elizabeth told Access. “We make no apologies in this film. Nobody says they’re sorry for what they look like or who they are, [and] we don’t have any makeovers – nobody has to get made over.”

Adding, “We accept everybody for who they are and we think everyone’s deserving of love.”

Adam, who was also on hand for the junket, said the film’s message of doing what you love (even if it’s not the most popular activity) resonates with fans.

“A cappella isn’t necessarily the coolest thing in the world to do. But it’s like if you like something and that’s what makes you happy [then do it],” he said. “I think this is a cool movie to show that if it makes you happy and you think it’s cool, just do it and have fun with it.”

“Pitch Perfect 2,” which also stars Anna Kendrick and Hailee Steinfeld, hits theaters on May 15.
