Catherine Zeta-Jones was admitted to a “mental health facility,” the actress’ rep confirmed to Access Hollywood.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder,” the actress’ rep said in a statement. “She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week this week on her two upcoming films.”
Zeta-Jones is no longer being treated in the facility. She spent “about five days” in the center, a friend of the actress told People.
As for her upcoming films, Zeta-Jones has a number of projects in the works, including the sports dramedy “Playing the Field” with Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel and Uma Thurman; as well as the gambling drama “Lay the Favorite,” starring Rebecca Hall and Bruce Willis.
The 41-year-old Welsh actress’ stint comes just months after her husband, Michael Douglas, told Access Hollywood his cancerous throat tumor is gone.
“I’m back,” Douglas told Access back in January. “My tumor is gone…but I probably won’t be clicking my heels for another two or three months.”
This is the latest set back for the family.
Months before Douglas’ discovered his cancer, his son, Cameron Douglas (who is Zeta-Jones’ step son), was sentenced in April 2010, to five years in prison, the result of pleading guilty to drug charges.
