Rep: Phillip Phillips’ Kidney Surgery ‘Went Well’

Phillip Phillips has undergone surgery to remove painfully large kidney stones, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

“Surgery went well,” an “American Idol” rep told Access on Thursday. “He’s resting and will be ready for the Idol tour kick off July 6!”

The surgery took place on Wednesday, and lasted six-and-a-half hours, according to TMZ.

Phillip was reportedly set to go under the knife last week, but the “Idol” Season 11 champ came down with a sinus infection and fever, forcing the much-needed surgery to be postponed, the website reports.

Despite his painful condition, the 21-year-old battled through the finals to earn the “Idol” crown, and as he traveled to Access Hollywood on the morning after his big win, he said he had a strong support team that helped him make it through the trying time.

“I had great doctors and loving family and friends and just people who also help out with the show… so it was good to have those people around to keep you in and keep you going,” he told Access at the time.
