Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003, Sports Illustrated reported.
According to the mag, four sources independently confirmed that the Yankees slugger’s name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive in Major League Baseball’s survey that year.
“I’m not saying anything,” Alex told Sports Illustrated on Thursday when asked about the news. “You’ll have to talk to the union.”
According to a report by ESPN, Rodriguez was aware of the positive test.
There were no penalties for a positive test at the time, though the 2003 testing led to a penalty-based random testing program in the following years due to more than five percent of players testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
The list of players is reportedly under government seal after being seized by federal agents during the government’s investigation into the BALCO scandal.
A-Rod won the MVP award in 2003, as well as knocking out the most home runs in the majors with 47 that season.
More recently, the slugger was at the center of a media firestorm off the field, when he was linked to Madonna last summer. Both Alex and the pop queen have since divorced their spouses and reportedly been sighted together on several occasions.
