Report: ‘Precious’ Star’s Award Stolen?

Gabourey Sidibe has earned showers of acclaim for her role as troubled teen Precious in the movie of the same name, but should she be an award winner?

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Showbiz 411 blog, the star may have been cheated out of the African-American Film Critics Association’s Best Actress Award at the December 14 ceremony.

Nicole Beharie won the award for “American Violet.” However, the blog alleged that the votes didn’t add up.

The site claimed that Gabourey received eight first-place ballots in the 16-critic final ballot, while Beharie earned four.

According to the site, AAFCA insiders claim that co-founder Gil Robertson IV altered the final numbers for the “American Violet” producers.

Robertson denied the charges to the site, claiming that the ballot in question was not a full count.

“There are 22 members of the AAFCA,” he told the site. “You obviously have an incomplete ballot.”

AAFCA president Wilson Morales reportedly wrote Robertson a letter stating, “Your recent actions have been called into question,” and the group has engaged in infighting over the latest batch of awards.

Among this year’s other winners were Morgan Freeman for “Invictus,” Anthony Mackie for “The Hurt Locker” and Mo’Nique for “Precious” – the film which also won Best Picture, Best Director and Screenplay.

If Sidibe was, in fact, cheated, she’ll have plenty of opportunities to add some awards to her resume – she’s nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, and is heavily favored to earn an Oscar bid as well.
