Ricky Martin is speaking out to Ellen DeGeneres about bullying and honesty – the latter being something he wasn’t allowed to practice as a young pop star in Menudo.
“I think that everyone has to go through their own process. When you’re not ready. You’re not ready. You have to go through a spiritual path. It doesn’t mater if takes you 10, 15 years since the moment you realize where you understand who you are. You cannot be forced,” Ricky said during an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” airing on Thursday.

“Children are being bullied because they are gay and they are committing suicide. Children are committing suicide because they are being outed. If you’re not ready, you’re just not ready,” he told Ellen.
The singer said he was forced to lie about who he was at young age while a member of the Latin pop group Menudo.

“I feel so free because I am literally for the first time in my life not manipulating information. When I was 12 years old I started in the music business. My manager told me, ‘But I want you to say you’re 11 years old so you can stay longer in the band and you look 11 years old. It’s OK.’ So it was, ‘Hi, I’m Ricky it’s nice to meet you and I’m 11 years old.’ I was already lying,” he recalled. “It’s been a very intense, beautiful year of parenting, of doing work with my foundation, of being free of fear and not afraid of fear. It’s been very beautiful.”
