Rising Star: Demi Lovato

When Disney’s latest teen film, “Camp Rock,” premiers Friday, the fans will be screaming for the Nick, Joe, and Kevin, better known to millions of ‘tweens as the Jonas Brothers. But there’s also a budding actress receiving accolades for the project — Demi Lovato.

Far from just another ‘tween sweetheart in the making, Demi boasts an impressive background in television, film and music. She is an accomplished pianist, drummer, guitar player, and singer; not to mention a popular YouTube star; along with fellow Disney pal Selena Gomez.

Demi started her acting career performing with the beloved purple dinosaur Barney, at the tender age of six. After a short stint on Fox’s “Prison Break,” Demi landed a plum role in Disney’s “As the Bell Rings,” which chronicled high school life taking place in-between classes.

Demi’s breakout came when she auditioned for “Camp Rock,” a film the young actress had no idea would co-star the biggest current tween sensations around.

“I actually didn’t even have any idea that the Jonas Brothers were going to be in the movie until after I got it,” Demi told Access Hollywood.

The rocking brothers were nothing but amazing to work with, according to Demi.

”‘Camp Rock’ was awesome! They’re awesome guys and they’re very classy,” she said. “Which is not what you expect from rock stars.”

Demi is still adjusting to her newfound fame, along with figuring out how to handle strangers screaming her name when she’s in public.

“It’s still surreal to me. I don’t think it’s actually hit me.” She told Access. “Last night, there was a bunch of people screaming for me and I was just like, ‘What?!’”

“Even though I was at the ‘Camp Rock’ premiere, and my face is on the poster, it still didn’t hit me that like, I felt like screaming myself, ‘cause I was so excited!” she added.

Unlike some young celebs, who might complain about life in the spotlight, Demi welcomes it, saying she has worked hard and made sacrifices to get where she is.

“You can either focus on being scared of the pressure and tons of cameras or you could look at it as, ‘Well if you didn’t want it, then why have you been practicing in your bedroom on Friday nights when you had the choice to go out?’” She said. “I love doing what I do.”

Along with the Jonas Brothers, Demi says she looks up to former-‘tween star Hilary Duff, and respects how actors like Matt Damon and Natalie Portman have lead their lives free from tabloid drama.

The respect goes both ways with the “Camp Rock” cast.

“We’re really proud of her,” Nick Jonas, (who, along with his brothers, wrote and co-produced six songs on Demi’s new album), told Access. “She’s got an amazing voice and working with her in the studio was also a lot of fun.”

Check out all the summer camp fun, along with Demi’s vocal skills, when “Camp Rock” premiers on the Disney Channel this Friday, June 20.
