Robert Downey Jr.: ‘No Plans’ For An ‘Iron Man 4’

Robert Downey Jr. will play Tony Stark/Iron Man again (numerous more times), but fans hoping to see an “Iron Man 4,” appear to be out of luck.

After thrilling fans with what appeared to be news of a fourth movie during a an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” on Tuesday, the actor squashed hope for an “Iron Man 4” later that day – but did reveal something that is sure to delight comic book movie lovers.

“There [are] no plans for an ‘Iron Man 4,'” he told David Letterman on Tuesday night.

But why not make another film in the massively successful franchise?

“That’s a valid question. Like it hasn’t made enough money? Yeah, I guess they have too much money or something,” the actor explained. “There is no script for ‘Iron Man 4.’ They do have a plan and I think they’re going to announce it, they’re very secretive about it.”

Letterman pressed the actor, asking him how he’ll explain to his son that there won’t be any more “Iron Man” movies.

“Just between us, no,” the actor said of a fourth movie. “But, I’m going to do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s going to be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”

Robert will next new seen suiting up as Iron Man in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” hitting theaters on May 1, 2015.
