ROLL CALL: Avengers Director Slams Star Wars & Twilight

Your Daily Dispatch of Celebrity Shenanigans

Throwing Geek Shade: When it comes to franchises, “Avengers” director Joss Whedon has some strong opinions – especially about “Star Wars” and “The Twilight Saga.” Joss is in the midst of his own franchise, with production beginning on “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.” EW asked the director to look back at some other huge big screen series and dish on what didn’t work. He had some headline-worthy thoughts on “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.” “‘Empire’ committed the cardinal sin of not actually ending,” he told the mag. “Which at the time I was appalled by and I still think it was a terrible idea… it’s not an ending! It’s a Come Back Next Week, or in three years. And that upsets me. I go to movies expecting to have a whole experience. If I want a movie that doesn’t end I’ll go to a French movie. That’s a betrayal of trust to me. A movie has to be complete within itself, it can’t just build off the first one or play variations.” So what about “Twilight”? “Everything rests on what this girl will do, but she’s completely passive, or not really knowing what the hell is going on. And that’s incredibly frustrating to me,” he said of the Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart big screen hits.

No Carbs For Gwyneth: GOOP guru and health food aficionado Gwyneth Paltrow has some serious will power! According to Us Weekly, during a recent dinner out at Serafina in East Hampton, New York, the actress opted for just veggies while her family enjoyed pasta and pizza. “Gwyneth didn’t touch the carbs,” a mag source claimed. “She only ate the steamed vegetables. So everyone else had a pizza and pasta feast while she ate her vegetables and drank sparkling water.” Sounds like a magical meal.
