ROLL CALL: Kyle Chandler Nixes Friday Night Lights Movie Idea

Your Daily Dispatch of Celebrity Shenanigans

Can There Be “Light” Without Coach Taylor?: “Friday Night Lights” fans have been clamoring for a big screen version of the series (which was based on the 2004 movie) but Kyle Chandler, who played coach Eric Taylor, is not onboard. Buzzfeed asked the actor about a possible movie and he politely squashed the idea. “‘Friday Night Lights’ was a great movie, and the TV show. After five shots at it, five seasons, as it went on, it got smaller and smaller and smaller, and it almost got canceled. We were up against ‘American Idol’ the first year and it got moved,” Kyle said, looking back on the show’s rocky ratings and how it survived for five seasons. “[Producers] Jason Katims and Pete Berg and those guys kept it alive, kept the material so fresh, and ended the thing so perfectly. I think that’s a tribute to those guys. I like the ending of the show as much as I like the whole thing in the sense that it was just done so classy, it was just done so well. Hats off to those guys.” Buzzfeed pressed, asking he would rather not re-live the show in a big screen version. “Yep,” he said. “That was a great experience, I really loved it. I still keep in touch with the people quite closely.” Teary eyes, broken hearts, we lose!

“Guardians Of The Galaxy” The Next “Citizen Kane”?: There are some who are weary of Marvel’s upcoming space adventure “Guardians of the Galaxy” (it does have a talking space raccoon, so we understand why), but star Chris Pratt says it will go down in movie history! “It’s the greatest movie of the 21st century! That’s what I’ll say. It’ll be the ‘Citizen Kane’ of movies other than ‘Citizen Kane,’” he told IGN. Since the movie also has a talking space tree, we’re going to reserve judgment on it.
