Rolling Stone’s Reasons To Be Excited About Music: Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas

The editors at Rolling Stone magazine think it’s a great time to celebrate music, and in their latest issue, they’ve offered their “40 Reasons To Be Excited About Music.”

Among the 40 reasons the editors churned out include T.I.‘s release from jail – with a new album on the way (No. 12), “Tribute Bands Are Sometimes Better Than The Real Thing (No. 18), and “Pop Divas” (No. 19) – women ruling the charts — including Russell Brand’s betrothed, Katy Perry, as well as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna.

“Everybody wants to be on top – we don’t want to give up that spot,” Rihanna told the mag. “And right now, there are a lot of women on top – so it’s a real fight.”

Katy noted that one of the most stunning ladies in the charts is Lady Gaga.

“There’s no competing with Lady Gaga,” Katy said. “You don’t even try stepping her lane. She’ll just f***ing run you over. She eats, breaths and s**** that stuff.”

Katy went on to rave about the look Gaga creates on stage.

“Gaga is kind of a creature. It’s not just the plain-Jane sexuality of t*** and a** (T&A) these days. People are getting in deep,” she said.

Katy added that only a few men can step foot in the glammed-up music roost, ruled by the women.

“There’s only a few men who can get away with that: David Bowie, Prince and now Adam Lambert. There have been some moments recently, like at the American Music Awards, where a male-fronted band came and played, and it was a sleeper. Jeans and a T-shirt and a guitar – it just doesn’t work anymore,” she said. “Unless you’re Bob Dylan.”

Among the other items Rolling Stone editors cite as “Reasons To Be Excited About Music” include The Roots being on television each night (on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”) (No. 30) and Sting’s daughter, Coco, entering the music sphere (No. 33).

The mag’s No. 1 reason, however, is Rolling Stone cover stars, the Black Eyed Peas, who even got props from U2’s Bono for the feature story.

“He’s a real force,” Bono said of Peas’ main man Will.i.am. “He’s got the biggest songs on Earth right now, he’s the most wonderful spirit to be around, and he’s interested in the macro as well as the micro.”

As for Will.i.am, he credits the band’s opportunities to one super-trouser-wearing ‘90s pop star.

“People are going to s*** on me for saying this, but it’s the f***ing truth,” he said. “MC Hammer opened the door for all of us. Without Hammer, there wouldn’t be Puffy, there wouldn’t be me.”
