Rosie O’Donnell: Chaz Bono’s ‘Becoming Chaz’ Is ‘Remarkable’

Rosie O’Donnell has high praise for Chaz Bono’s new documentary, “Becoming Chaz,” and hopes it helps America broaden its dialogue about transgender individuals.

“I think its fantastic,” Rosie told Access Hollywood over the weekend at the film’s premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

“He’s a very brave guy and I think that it will really open up the topic for discussion in America,” Rosie said of the film, which chronicles Chaz’s gender re-assignment. “And it will be consumable in a way it hasn’t ever been before because we all fell in love with Chastity Bono in the ‘70s and now to see the journey that she/he has taken is pretty remarkable.

“I think it was very brave of him to do and I’m very proud of the film,” Rosie added.

The documentary is slated to air on the Oprah Winfrey Network in the spring – a channel on which Chaz is happy to be placed.

“I’m really excited for it, I think it’s a great home for it,” Chaz said to reporters at the movie’s premiere.
