Russell Brand has written a follow-up to his New York Times best-seller, “My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs, and Stand-Up.”
The “Get Him to the Greek” star penned “Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal” – a sequel to his first tell-all bio (in which the comedian openly discussed his past drug use and prostitutes).
“I [included ‘This Time It’s Personal’ in the title] as a joke because of the highly intimate nature of the first book,” Russell told Meredith Viera, in an interview on the “Today” show on Wednesday. “It was a frivolous gag.”
Russell, who proposed to singer Katy Perry in January, says his new book is a “love story,” and that his relationship with the pop star has made him a changed man.
“I’ve got a lot more energy when I’m on tour, primarily,” he said of his life with the “Teenage Dream” singer. “And I stay out of mischief a lot more. It’s really good.”
The comedian played coy when asked about the location of the couple’s upcoming nuptials, saying, “The Arctic, India, Egypt on a pyramid, at the earth’s core, in the arms of Vishnu… I try to spread different rumors so that on the day we can sneak off!”
Russell recently made headlines when a paparazzo placed him under citizen’s arrest at Los Angeles International Airport after an alleged altercation occurred last month.
Katy immediately took to her Twitter account to explain the incident, writing, “If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me” — something the funnyman does not regret despite the arrest.
“They can be quite overzealous, them photographers. They’re very, very keen, nature photographers – sometimes they want to get into medical areas,” Russell joked to Meredith of the invasive incident.
“I was just being protective and normal I think,” he added.
The star recently completed work on two films – a remake of “Arthur,” and Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” starring alongside Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren for both projects.
“[‘The Tempest] was pure Shakespeare – it was an amazing experience,” he said. “Incredible actors, yes, phenomenal experience. Incredible prose.
“And, I got to wear a dress and no one can judge me for that!” he laughed.
Russell’s latest book, “Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal,” is available in stores now.
