Russell Crowe In Talks To Play Jor-El In ‘Superman: Man of Steel’

Russell Crowe is reportedly in final negotiations to star in “Superman: Man of Steel,” taking on a part previously played by the late Marlon Brando.

According to Variety, Crowe is in final talks to play Superman’s biological father, Jor-El, in the Christopher Nolan-directed superhero reboot.

Brando first played the role in the original “Superman” in 1978.

According to the trade mag, Nolan had hoped for an A-list star to portray Superman’s father since signing on the franchise.

The Aussie star will join British actor Henry Cavill, who is playing Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams who has signed on to play Lois Lane, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, who will play Martha and Jonathan Kent, and “Boardwalk Empire’s” Michael Shannon as General Zod.

“Superman: Man of Steel” is slated for release in December 2012.
