Box Office titans Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe have united on screen for “American Gangster,” directed by Ridley Scott. But this isn’t the first time the two men have worked together.
As TV One Access found out, the first time was in 1995 for sci-fi thriller, “Virtuosity.”
At the time, Crowe was a young up-and-comer playing the villain, and he had to audition alongside Washington when things got intense.
“We had a cyclone wire fence between us and this thing just sort of dances in the wind, goes through the hole and goes straight on Denzel’s lip,” Crowe explained.
That “thing” was a tiny bit of spit!
“When the director says, ‘Cut,’ he goes, ‘I love the taste of warm saliva in the morning,’” Crowe recounted of Denzel’s brush off.
The veteran actor still shrugs the moment off.
“He was great, man,” Denzel laughed. “I mean, he [did it] by accident, he didn’t spit at me. His career would have gone in a different direction if he spit at me.”
On November 2, the roles will be reversed as Crowe plays the cop and Denzel the “American Gangster.”
