“Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy was a little surprised when “Glee” took home the Golden Globe on Sunday for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical, but he’s thankful to add another trophy to the show’s cabinet.
“We won last year and we had a lot of luck early with Jane [Lynch] and Chris [Colfer] winning, so I thought, ‘It’s ‘Modern Family,’ of course,’ a show we greatly admire. But I’m thrilled,” Ryan told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush backstage at the big event. “I’m thrilled that our cast has doubled in a year, so there’s a lot of bright, beautiful faces who get to come up and experience it and it’s great. It’s all gravy at this point.”
While the cast will take a moment to enjoy the spoils of their three big wins at the Globes last night – Jane’s Best Supporting Actress In a TV Series win, Chris Colfer’s Best Supporting Actor In a TV Series win, and the show’s Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical, win – they are gearing up for more work still before Season 2 is done.
For starters, , on Sunday night Anne Hathaway scored herself a guest spot on the show, confirming with Ryan while the Globes were still going on, that she would come on the show to play Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) lesbian aunt. Ryan also told Billy that he’s looking forward to Gwyneth Paltrow’s two-episode “Glee” return.
“She’s like our muse,” Ryan told Billy of the “Shakespeare in Love” Oscar winner.
Ryan and his fellow writers are also working on bringing more Lady Gaga to the fray – in particular, the title track off her upcoming new album, “Born This Way.”
“We have the rights to do an episode about the lead song off her new album, ‘Born This Way,’ which is amazing,” Ryan said before breaking down which stars will feature in the number.
”[It will] involve Max [Adler, who plays bully Dave Karofsky], and Darren [Criss, who plays openly gay high school student Blaine], and Chris [Colfer], and actually… the whole cast ‘cause it’s an anthem about being true to who you are which is what ‘Glee’ is about so we’re very excited to pay homage to her,” Ryan said.
Before all that happens though, “Glee” has their post-Super Bowl episode ready for its February 6 premiere.
“It’s a great episode. Ian [Brennan] wrote it Brad [Falchuk] directed it,” Ryan explained. “We actually didn’t want to do it but they made us, so we kind of did our best and we’re very proud of it.
In related news, Dot-Marie Jones, who plays Coach Beiste, told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman on the Globes red carpet that she found out she is going to sing in an upcoming “Glee” episode, describing the tune as a “kind of honky tonk thing,” which will be a duet with Matthew Morrison.
