“My father really hasn’t ever said he has
Parkinson’s,” the actor said. “He comes
from a pretty prideful generation and he doesn’t really talk about it too much.
He’s maybe said it once or twice out loud.”

His father may not
have been very outspoken about his condition, but Ryan said it rallied his
family to try and seek the best possible treatment.

“It kind of galvanized everybody else, to sort of
seek resources,” he added. “And for us, in a strange way, it’s really
kind of brought us together.”

Ryan’s dad lives on
through more than just memories. The actor and his wife, Blake Lively, welcomed
a daughter in December 2014, and named her James after her grandfather.
