Sam Worthington On ‘Avatar’s’ Big Box Office Success: ‘I’m Humbled’

“Avatar” just picked up a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama and before it ends its box office run, it could pick up another accolade as well – highest grossing film ever at the box office.

“Avatar” has raked in $1.606 billion in receipts, putting it second on the all-time box office receipts list behind “Titanic,” which took in $1.843 billion worldwide.

And on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, star Sam Worthington said he’s done his best to contribute to “Avatar’s” march toward the top.

“I’ve gone about 10 times,” he told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson. “I’m putting the money in for the boss, you know?”

When making the movie, Sam said the cast had no idea what a huge success it would be.

“You’re hoping that the movie comes out,” he told Shaun of what he thought back while making the project. “To be honest, you’re hoping Jim finishes it because you know he’s notorious for long shoots. But as I said, we’re extremely humbled by the success it’s achieved.”

Many box office watchers expect “Avatar” to become the highest grossing movie of all time in the coming weeks, and should it beat “Titanic,” Sam already knows how he’ll celebrate.

“Probably crack a beer and hopefully get another job,” he laughed.
