Sarah Hyland Gets Restraining Order Against Ex Matthew Prokop After Alleged Threats & Choking

Sarah Hyland has obtained a temporary restraining order against ex-boyfriend Matthew Prokop, who she split with in August after dating for five years.

The 23-year-old “Modern Family” star claimed that Prokop was both physically and verbally abusive during their relationship, according to court documents obtained by Access Hollywood.

Hyland alleged that Prokop “relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats.”

Prokop, 24, also allegedly choked the actress while pinning her against a car.

“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak,” she stated in the court documents. “I was scared and in fear for my life.”

The actress also claimed in the court documents that Prokop threatened to set one of her homes on fire and threatened that she would never see her dog again.

Prokop is ordered to stay 100 yards away from both the actress and her dog.

In the documents, the actress claimed that Prokop sought treatment in rehab in August. Hyland claimed that the facility director contacted her and said she should obtain a TRO against him.

Lee A. Sherman, Hyland’s attorney, released a statement to Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

“On September 19, 2014, Ms. Hyland obtained a Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Order against Matthew Prokop. The documents filed speak for themselves. Out of respect for the court, the process and all parties, I have advised Ms. Hyland not to comment on the matter. We request that you respect the parties’ privacy during this time,” Sherman’s statement read.

Access has reached out to Prokop and his lawyer for comment.
