‘Scandal’: Bellamy Young & Jeff Perry On Losing Dan Bucatinsky, Columbus Short: ‘It Hurts’

The third season of “Scandal” brought the death of a couple of key characters and series stars Bellamy Young (Mellie Grant) and Jeff Perry (Cyrus Beene) are feeling the loss of their castmates.

“It hurts, honestly,” Jeff told Access Hollywood at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival in Monaco, when asked what it will be like filming Season 4 without Dan Bucatinsky (James Novak) and Columbus Short (Harrison Wright). “It’s a really tight group.

“Bellamy and Tony [Goldwyn] and Kerry [Washington] and I, we’ve all kind of talked about it [and] marveled at it, because we’ve all been through a fair number of showbiz wars and wonderful jobs and times of not being able to work as much as we wanted,” he continued. “This particular chemistry, this group, this camaraderie and satisfaction is really rarified for all of us. So we take these partings really personally.”

The actor, whose character’s actions led to the murder of his on-screen husband in Season 3, said he already misses his former partner in crime terribly.

“I miss Dan like crazy,” Jeff said. “[We all know] though in our actors’ souls that you’re serving something larger than you — you’re serving a story that’s bigger than you, and that sometimes you might have to be a bit of road kill!”

Bellamy said she’s grateful they all live near each other so they can still spend time together, even if they’re no longer on “Scandal.”

“Then you’re thankful that LA is a small town and you only have to miss people at work,” she said. “You don’t have to miss people off the clock. You can still have them in your life.”
