Seth Meyers: ‘It’s Really Exciting’ To Be Taking Over Late Night

“Saturday Night Live’s” Seth Meyers is heading to “Late Night,” taking over for Jimmy Fallon next year, and he can’t wait.

“It’s really exciting,” Seth told Access Hollywood on Monday at NBC’s Upfront presentation in New York City about his new gig. “It’s been a special time slot for so long and the three guys that have come before me [are] heroes of mine, so it’s really exciting to be doing it.”

The three men Seth referred to are David Letterman, who hosted from the early 1980s to 1993, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy (who is moving on to “The Tonight Show” in 2014).

The “Weekend Update” anchor hopes his version of “Late Night” will feature some unique talent, like Conan’s did.

“I watched Conan back in the day. I always liked that he had sort of a cast of characters that he brought out a lot and doing ‘Weekend Update,’ that’s always been one of my strengths is talking to insane people, so I hope we can keep doing that,” Seth told Access.

In the run up to his “Late Night” takeover, Seth will continue his work on “SNL.”

“I’ll start next season at ‘SNL,’ because this job is a full year a way,” he explained. “I’ll be back at ‘SNL’ next year until I can no longer function and operate my duties.”

Seth plans to roll out a new set when he takes over the seat at the desk, but he’s not sure about what to do music wise just yet.

“I don’t know about band yet. Worse comes to worse, we’ll role out a karaoke machine put it on random [and] see what happens,” he joked.

Seth can always turn to Jimmy too if he needs help.

“Jimmy and I are friends… We talked yesterday when the news came out and he’s incredibly supportive and it’s really exciting to know that there’s someone who had the job before me who I can talk to,” Seth said.
