Shaun’s Sayings: Beyonce (August 17, 2006)

She was a couple hours late and apologized profusely.

That’s one of the things I like about Beyonce. She’s a professional and doesn’t like to keep people waiting. So, when the ‘Tyra Banks” show she was taping wrapped very late, it put Beyonce behind on the junket she was scheduled to do that evening to promote her new album, “B-day.”

So, when she came into my hotel room where my camera crew was set up, she gave me a hug and told everyone she was very sorry for making us wait.

We kick off the interview talking about the recent terrorist threats and whether she was afraid to fly in light of the recent developments. Beyonce tells me that she is very thankful that she has the means to fly ‘private’ which she does often because it’s easier. When she flies ‘commercial’ she has to duck in and out before anyone recognizes her.

She’s very excited about the release of “B-day” which she finished in less than 3 weeks. Earlier in the day, one of her producers came by my make-up room at my studio to play the CD for me. It was one of only 3 copies that had been made. Maxx tells me that illegal downloading and copying has forced Beyonce’s team to be extra vigilant in making sure no advanced copies are leaked.

I really like the CD. It’s definitely one that will get you hitting the dance floor. My favorite cut is one that Beyonce wrote for the movie, “Dreamgirls” and it is one of the “hidden” tracks that comes at the end of the CD.

I ask Beyonce, since she is so private about her personal life, did she think twice about having the very sexy scenes with Jay-Z in the video for “Deja Vu”. She says that the two of them never really think about the choreography, that it’s really spontaneous.

She turns 25 on her birthday and has accomplished so much. What three things does she want to do by the time she reaches 30? She tells me that she wants the clothing line started by her mom, Tina and herself to be successful; she wants to win ann Oscar; and she wants to be married with at least one child.

And, if she could pick her leading man (in a movie) who would it be?

Denzel Washington.
