Sheriff’s Department Looking Into Alleged Extortion Attempt On Mel Gibson By Ex-Girlfriend

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department officials are looking into allegations that Mel Gibson may have been the victim of an alleged extortion attempt by his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, LASD spokesperson Steve Whitmore told Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

The Sheriffs are reportedly looking into whether Grigorieva was involved in a plot to extort money from the actor, related to audio recordings of Gibson. Tapes featuring Gibson ranting and using racial epithets, reportedly at Grigorieva, surfaced on Radar Online earlier this month. On Tuesday, Radar released a sixth rant which appeared to feature Gibson yelling at Grigorieva and her accusing him of being mentally unstable and of hitting her while she held their infant daughter, Lucia.

Access has spoken with a source with knowledge of the investigation who revealed that Gibson’s attorneys provided what they claim is “additional evidence of extortion” to the Sheriff’s Department.

The source would not specify what the evidence was.

Gibson’s lawyer reportedly met with officials on Tuesday.

Attorneys for Grigorieva did not respond to requests for comment from Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Department is already investigating allegations Gibson was involved in domestic abuse in the former couple’s household, but the alleged extortion attempt is a new twist in the story.

As of Wednesday morning, Gibson’s rep has not commented to Access Hollywood on the situation.
