Shirley MacLaine Feels Sorry For ‘The Jennifer Anistons Of The World’; Names Two Young Actresses She Thinks Have Star Power

Shirley MacLaine has lived a wild life, but she managed to keep plenty of secrets from the prying eye of the paparazzi back in her day.

While the legendary actress got away with a lot of things — some of which she’s now revealing in her latest book, “I’m Over All That: And Other Confessions” — the 76-year-old admitted that she feels bad for actresses like Jennifer Aniston, who are constantly under the paparazzi spotlight.

“I don’t know how they do it. I feel sorry for the Jennifer Anistons of the world because it’s soul-searing to have your life recorded and perused,” Shirley told Parade.com. “It really is inhuman.”

Shirley has less patience, though, for those she thinks work on cultivating paparazzi attention.

“I think some of the stars encourage it to tell you the truth,” she said. “I remember thinking when I was in my twenties that I knew some of my buddies in the business would dress up to go to the market. Well, what do you expect? I’m not interested in fame at all.”

The actress, older sister of actor Warren Beatty, has starred in a number of celebrated films in her time, including “Terms of Endearment” and “Steel Magnolias,” but she still has respect for some of this generation’s younger crop of actors.

“I think Anne Hathaway has it,” Shirley said, when asked who she thinks has “true star power” by Parade.com. “And definitely Natalie Portman.”
