Shonda Rhimes Executive Producing New Medical Drama For ABC

Shonda Rhimes is hoping for a primetime three-peat.

The creator of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” is working on a third medical television drama for ABC with her longtime producing partner, Betsy Beers, Entertainment Weekly first reported.

ABC ordered a pilot episode of the new series, which is being called “Off The Map.” Shonda confirmed on her Twitter page on Wednesday morning she would executive produce.

But Shonda isn’t the mastermind behind the show’s concept. “Off The Map,” was created by “Grey’s Anatomy” writer Jenna Bans.

“I didn’t write it. GA writer Jenna Bans is creator of Off The Map,” Shonda Tweeted on Wednesday. “I’m just like a proud, proud mama exec producing.”

Like “Grey’s” and “Private Practice,” the new series – “Off The Map” – is also about medical personnel, but this time there’s no swanky hospital or flashy private facility involved. The new series will be based around doctors who work in a tropical area.

Interestingly, Shonda was asked on Twitter on Wednesday why she hasn’t created another “Grey’s’” spin off, to which she replied. “Because I already have two shows.”
