Simon Cowell: Lauren Silverman Did Not Trap Me With Pregnancy

Simon Cowell is gradually opening up about becoming a father.

In a new interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the “X Factor” boss revealed what went through his head when Lauren Silverman first told him she was pregnant with his child.

“’Oh my God, this is exciting, and it’s going to be a bit of a nightmare for the next few weeks,’” Simon told Ellen, in a clip from an interview airing on her talk show on Tuesday, when asked to share his initial thoughts regarding the pregnancy. “I mean, as everyone knows – it’s well-documented – it was kind of uncomfortable, the situation.”

Simon said the heat from the media has begun to die down (Lauren was still married to a friend of the music mogul when news of the pregnancy broke), and now, both he and the mom-to-be are feeling good.

“Everything’s calm now and I’m happy,” he said, adding, “I’m actually happier than I’ve ever been!”

Adding of Lauren, “She’s in a great place.”

The oft-blunt Brit also shot down tabloid allegations claiming Lauren got pregnant on purpose in order to get a cut of Simon’s wealth.

“I can’t blame the media because I’ve got, you know, a juicy story,” he said. “But there’s a lot that was said about her, like that she trapped me, that she’s a gold digger, and that’s absolute nonsense. She’s a great girl.

“Like I said, it was awkward because of the circumstances,” he added.

And Simon’s mom is over the moon about her soon-to-arrive grandchild (rumored to be a boy).

“She’s thrilled. Really, really thrilled,” a smiling Simon said.
