Simon Cowell finally confirmed his engagement to makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy during an appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Monday night, and he also revealed he is thinking of one day becoming a father.
At the start of the interview the “American Idol” judge tried to remain coy when Jay broached the engagement subject, but he quickly confirmed the news.
“The rumor is you are engaged. Is this true?” Jay asked.
“Are they true, um, well I do have somebody in my life now Jay,” Simon said, before offering the confirming, “Yes.”
“I kind of made a decision this year to make somebody happy, so that’s how I…” Simon trailed off, trying not to give too much away.
“So you’re doing this just to help someone?” Jay asked.
“It’s called giving back,” Simon laughed.
Simon revealed he bought Mezhgan, who he originally met when she worked behind the scenes on “American Idol,” her stunning engagement ring on his side of the pond.
“I bought her the ring in London,” Simon revealed.
Simon, who admitted he felt “quite uncomfortable” and “a bit embarrassing” talking about his personal life, did confirm a wedding is on the cards – at some point.
“Within the next year?” Jay asked.
“Within the next 10 years,” Simon laughed.
While Simon tried not to share too many details, Jay managed to coax out Simon’s fiancee, Mezhgan, on to the stage.
“Hello, nice to meet you,” the beautiful brunette said as she sat on the chair next to her man and gave him a kiss.
“She is also your make up person?” Jay asked.
“Yeah, I always said if I was going to get engaged, I’d always get engaged to a makeup artist,” Simon laughed.
“So when you’re in bed, ‘Oh! Hang on!’ and she can touch up?” Jay asked.
“Oh sure, at least three touch ups a night,” Simon said as the audience started laughing mischievously. “Not that kind. That’s a different kind.”
“OK, I think I’m done with you two now,” Mezhgan said, standing up to leave.
After Mezhgan left, Simon confirmed that he is indeed interested in becoming a dad.
“Do I want kids? Um, I’m kind of torn, because I’m a bit too old to have kids, but then again I think it would be important to have a lot of me’s around,” Simon noted.
