Simon’s ‘Idol’ Predictions

It might be a while before we see an “American Idol” make the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but 12 wannabes are still desperately trying to impress us this season.

As for the man who passes judgment every week, Simon Cowell had plenty to say to Nancy O’Dell about what he?s seen so far.

What do you think of the top 12 so far at “American Idol?” Nancy asked.

“Uhh, they are interesting,” Simon laughed.

“Is that a compliment?” Nancy wondered.

“I think so, yeah,” Simon said. “There is not a standout winner like there was last year at this stage to me, but there are seven people who could win the competition, so, I think that I kind of prefer that.”

On the next “Idol,” the top 12 will try to prove their worth to Simon when they each tackle a different Stevie Wonder tune.

Simon is 100 percent sure not everyone will make the cut.

“One or two haven’t got a cats-in-hell chance, like the kid with the glasses,” Simon said.

Simon was referring to Kevin Covais, whose last performance Simon called “very juvenile.”

“He is cute though,” Nancy said.

“He will not win American Idol, trust me,” Simon laughed. “And if he does, I think I?m quitting.”

“I still love Taylor Hicks,” Nancy said.

“I like that people love Taylor,” Simon said.

“He is very likeable. I just want him to do a Ray Charles?,” Nancy said.

“Oh, I’m sure he’ll do Ray Charles,” Simon laughed. “I think he has watched a lot of Ray Charles videos. A lot!”

“Your two favorites, if you had to choose, would be Kellie and Chris, correct?” Nancy asked. “Why is that?”

“Great voice, Chris knows who he is and does it incredibly well, nice guy,” Simon said. “Kellie, you can?t help but like her.”

“I liked her story from the day she first walked in,” Simon added. “I like her quirkiness. She is interesting and you just like her.”
