Sofia Vergara Fires Back At Emmy Objectification Critics: ‘It’s Ridiculous,’ ‘Lighten Up’

Sofia Vergara stood on a rotating pedestal during Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, showing off her famous assets while Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Bruce Rosenblum gave a mundane speech.

The move instantly came under social media fire, branding the bit sexist for blatantly objectifying the “Modern Family” star – but the actress defended the move.

“I think it’s absolutely the opposite [of objectification],” Sofia told reporters in the Emmys press room. “It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself.

“I think it’s ridiculous that somebody started this,” she continued. “I know who she [is]—who has no sense of humor. Lighten up a little bit.”

Noticeably missing from the actress’ arm was new beau Joe Manganiello, who Sofia said she made stay home so she’d look better.

“I didn’t bring him – he is too hot, too tall, and he makes me look very short and fat,” she joked with Access Hollywood earlier that night on the red carpet of the “Magic Mike” hunk.

“No, we didn’t wanna make a whole issue about it,” she told Billy Bush. “You know, it’s a ‘Modern Family’ event, so I didn’t want to make it all about the craziness. So, he is too hot to bring him here!”
