Staff Blog: Hayden Brings It (August 17, 2006, 10:00 AM PDT)

(August 16, 2006) — Hayden Panettiere is my favorite new actress, and I?m not afraid to admit it.

Three weeks ago, I had never heard of her.

This week, I can?t get enough of her. And neither can Access Hollywood?s parent company, NBC Universal – you see, she?s their new darling (and rightfully so!).

Hayden?s past credits include a lot of episodes of ?Malcolm In The Middle,? and ?Commander-In-Chief,? and small roles in the films like ?Racing Stripes,? ?Raising Helen,? and ?Ice Princess.?

This August she?s the star of ?Bring It On: All Or Nothing,? she’ll star in the upcoming NBC fall show ?Heroes,? and ? Tuesday night I was riveted while watching her on the ?Miss Teen USA? pageant (bad admission #1).

Oh, and she turns 17 next Monday.

Hilary, Lindsay … watch out.

Yes, I did indeed watch all of ?Bring It On: All Or Nothing?on DVD last Sunday night (bad admission #2). Correct ? no grown man in their 30?s should admit this, but I work in entertainment news, and well ?. the film?s my August guilty pleasure!

?BIO: AON?, co-starring (little sister of Beyonce) Solange Knowles-Smith and Rihanna, is the third in the Cheer-series, and debuted direct on DVD. And this sequel has nailed consumer sales of $12 million in its first week in stores, making it the second-highest debut of a live-action DVD premiere in history.

The film takes from the original ?Bring It On? (you get repeats of such classic lines as ?This is NOT a Cheer-tocracy!?) and then provides it?s own twist on the established formula (in original, upper class white school cheerleading squad steals its moves from the inner city squad?.. in third installment [original sequel was ?Bring It On Again?] captain from the upper middle class white school is forced to transfer to the inner city school, and she joins their cheerleading squad – you can imagine the rest of the plot from there!).

Getting back to Hayden – she?ll star as ? what else??. a cheerleader with superpowers in ?Heroes? this fall, which the comic book geek in me can?t wait to watch (watch for the promos now on NBC, where she falls off some sort of tall set of bleachers, and pops her arm back into place!)!

I swear that the parent company didn?t make me write this. I promise. I was inspired (bad admission #3).
