Star Trek’s Chris Pine Named Male Star Of Tomorrow

“Star Trek” isn’t due out until May, but Chris Pine, who plays the young James T. Kirk, in the upcoming film is already being honored for his work.

Pine will receive the ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow award on April 2 at the ShowWest exhibition in Las Vegas.

“ShowWest has a history of recognizing major talents at the very earliest points in their rising careers,” Mitch Neuhauser, Co-Managing Director of the event said in a statement. “Pine’s impressive skills on the screen and stage will be sure to be showcased, with his performance as Captain Kirk, in the much anticipated release of ‘Star Trek.’”

The ShoWest Star of Tomorrow award honors actors and actresses on the rise. Past recipients have included Shia LaBeouf (2007), Hayden Christensen (2005), Ryan Gosling (2004), Brad Pitt (1993) and Johnny Depp (1990).

Relatively new on the scene, Pine last hit the big screen in the 2008 indie film, “Bottle Shock.”

Other film credits of Pine’s include a small role in “Smokin’ Aces,” alongside Ben Affleck, Jeremy Piven and Ryan Reynolds, and “Just My Luck,” with Lindsay Lohan.
