‘Star Wars’: ‘Breaking Bad’ Star In Running For Lead

Could a star of “Downton Abbey” or “Breaking Bad” be on their way to becoming a Jedi apprentice in the J.J. Abrams helmed next “Star Wars” installment?

According to sources who spoke to Variety, possibly.

Variety broke news on Wednesday afternoon that contenders for the lead role in the new “Star Wars” film include Ed Speleers (Jimmy on “Downton”), Jesse Plemons (Todd from “Breaking Bad”), John Boyea (from “Attack of the Block”), and Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher – both theater actors.

Disney didn’t comment on the report to the publication, and Variety noted that the search for the lead role is continuing, with these men high on the list of possibilities.

The new “Star Wars” film is expected to see “Girls” actor Adam Driver as the latest bad guy (although it has not officially been confirmed).

Carrie Fisher said she’ll be back as Princess Leia, and that Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) will also return.
