Supernatural: Jared Padalecki Talks Ezekiel-Sam Twist

Jared Padalecki is having fun with the latest twist for his character, Sam, on “Supernatural,” which continues tonight on The CW.

Sam Winchester was dying in the show’s Season 9 premiere, but now that he’s chosen life, he’s being healed from the inside by Ezekiel.

“I was really excited about the angel turn, obviously,” Jared told reporters after The CW flew AccessHollywood.com up to the show’s Vancouver set where they made us their guests recently during a roundtable interview. “I thought that was kind of a cool, fun idea, a fun way around that we haven’t yet done.

“To have an angel kind of embody Sam I thought was [a] fun, scary thing to play. So I was really excited about that,” he added.

Sam doesn’t know that there is an angel inside him working to heal him.

“Part of the deal that Dean makes very clear to Ezekiel is , ‘You’re not just gonna keep popping out. … I don’t want my brother to find out about this. … We’ve gotta just try and fix Sam and let’s go forward,’” Jared explained of how Dean (Jensen Ackles’ character) views the situation. “So we see that struggle for a few episodes.”

While Sam is being fixed, Jensen’s character, Dean, doesn’t have his brother to turn to, nor does he have Misha Collins’ character, Castiel, as Cas is experiencing life without his angel abilities.

“He doesn’t have his support system like he used to. He doesn’t have Cas the way he does, he doesn’t have Sam. … He’s got his car, that’s about it,” Jensen said. “He’s got his car and he has his music. So the beginning of the season has been a little difficult for him because he kind of feels like he’s on an island of his own and that’s a situation that he doesn’t like to be on, or be in.”

“Supernatural” continues tonight at 9/8c on The CW.
