Surprise Elimination On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

There’s always at least one surprise elimination on “Dancing with the Stars” and in Season 14, it happened in Week 4, when one of the most famous members of the cast was sent packing.

(SPOILER: This story contains the results of Tuesday’s “DWTS.”)

For Sherri Shepherd, the laughter turned to tears on Tuesday when “The View” co-host and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, were eliminated from the competition.

Sherri had started to tear up when she learned she and Val were in the Bottom 2, alongside Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower, but when co-host Tom Bergeron broke the news that she was going home, the tears poured down her face.

“I just wanna say, thank you for letting me live a dream that I’ve always had and I wanna say, I got the most amazing partner in Val Chmerkvoskiy,” Sherri said, reflecting on the experience. “And, I wanna say, to every person out there — that thing that scares you the most, that makes you say, ’I don’t know if I can do it, I’m scared,’ run towards it because it’s so amazing on the other side.”

Val, who mouthed the word, “Wow!” upon learning the elimination news, apologized to his partner for not getting her further in the competition.

“She’s an incredible person, she fought for me and I’m just really, really sorry,” he said.

But Sherri, who landed in the second to last spot on Monday with just 21 points (Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus were the lowest with 20 points) didn’t blame Val in the slightest.

“No – I love you and I thank you all… I had the most amazing time. Thank you,” she said.

Melissa Gilbert, who visited the hospital after bumping her head last night while spinning during her paso doble with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, was not in attendance on Tuesday.

Tom revealed that, on doctor’s advice, she was resting.

Melissa, however, wasn’t the only one who suffered an injury on Monday – Maks too had an arm injury, the details of which were not specifically addressed.

“It took away from the pain in the ankle, knees and shoulder so it’s all good,” Maks said, adding of Melissa. “I really do hope she’s OK. She’s a fighter, she’s a trooper… I’m looking forward to next week, she’s looking forward to next week.”
